The Ukrainian government last year nationalised PrivatBank, the country’s largest bank, which was 41% owned by Belgravia-based Boholyubov, 55. The tycoon fumed: “This is not nationalisation. It’s a classic illegal takeover.” He and business partner Igor Kolomoisky controlled Privat group, a banking and industrial conglomerate. Last year the pair reached an undisclosed settlement in a $2bn UK court action over disputed mining assets with fellow Ukrainian Victor Pinchuk (qv).
