Franklin's father, Sir Roland, worked on takeovers with Sir James Goldsmith, and Franklin, 52, followed in his footsteps to ply a similar trade at Rothschilds. In 2015 when he sold consumer goods group Jarden to rival Newell Rubbermaid his stake was valued at £352m. He received shares worth up to £124m after the deal under an incentive plan. In 2014 he set up the London-based investment vehicle Nomad Foods, which in 2015 made £15.8m profit.
