A former Oxford academic and adviser to the Department of Trade and Industry, Booth joined banker Mark Coombs (qv) in leading the 1999 management buyout of what became Ashmore Group, the asset management operation now worth £2.56bn. We assume he sold most of his shares, netting £60m. His London-based New Sparta Films business has worked on titles such as The Silent Storm, starring Damian Lewis and Andrea Riseborough, and Miss You Already, with Drew Barrymore. Booth, 53, also owns New Call Telecom, a business with £5.2m assets that rolls out wi-fi hotspots.
