Lord Harris and family
Harris, 74, took over the family carpet firm at the age of 15 after his father’s death. He sold Harris Queensway in 1988, netting £69m, and set up Carpetright. When he stood down as chairman of the Essex-based business in 2014 it had annual sales of nearly £500m. His son Martin runs the flooring start-up Tapi, backed by investors including Lord Kirkham (qv) and Sir Harry Djanogly (qv). The Tory peer's charitable work includes the Harris Federation of 41 academy schools.
