The Duke of Bedford

Rank 2017

Bedford, 55, is best known for his 13,000-acre Woburn Estate in Bedford and accompanying safari park, but is also the largest private landlord in upmarket Bloomsbury, close to London's West End. The company covering his 180-building portfolio there showed £117.7m net assets in 2015-16 – up almost £22m in a year – and we also see nearly £14m net assets in the 2015 accounts of two family businesses, including Woburn Enterprises. With the house and grounds worth £150m, we push Bedford to £707m based on the rise in his London estate.
