Sir Roger and Peter De Haan
Based in Folkestone, the De Haans have spent £60m to help regenerate their home town. The family fortune stems from the Saga empire developed by their hotelier father Sidney. Initially specialising in holidays for the over-50s, the group developed publishing and financial services arms. De Haan, 68, took over the running of the company in 1984 and sold it for £1.35bn in 2004. Today he owns Folkestone Harbour Holdings, which showed profits of £5.2m in 2015. His brother Peter, 65, had been finance director at Saga and now runs his own wine business and property company. Asset falls and huge charitable spending see us clip the valuation to £895m.
